NAIA serves 1.17M passengers during Holy Week, marks smoother operations

THE Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) welcomed a total of 1.17 million passengers from April 13 to 20 during the Holy Week travel rush, marking a 12.7 percent increase from the same period last year.

The daily average reached 146,611 travelers, with the highest volume recorded on Easter Sunday at 156,635.

Passenger traffic rose across the board, with domestic travel increasing by 14.9 percent and international by 11.21 percent year-on-year.

“This Holy Week showed how much better NAIA is becoming. We saw higher passenger numbers, but smoother and faster operations. That’s not by chance, it’s the result of planning, investment, and teamwork,” New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) president Ramon Ang, said in a statement on Monday.

The San Miguel Corp.-backed NNIC credited the improved flow at all terminals to enhanced coordination with key government agencies and recent operational upgrades.

The Bureau of Immigration, for instance, deployed additional officers and opened more counters to accommodate the surge.

As a result, NAIA recorded an 83.28 percent on-time performance (OTP) across all terminals throughout the week — a key indicator of more efficient airport and airline operations. OTP measures the percentage of flights departing or arriving within 15 minutes of schedule, excluding cancellations.

Ang expressed gratitude to government partners, airport staff, and NNIC personnel, saying, “We’re just getting started, and we will keep working to build the airport our country deserves.”
