THE Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) assured Metro Manila residents on Tuesday that there will be no water shortage during the upcoming summer months, despite the expected surge in demand due to rising temperatures.

MWSS Engineering and Technical Operations Group Acting Deputy Administrator Patrick James Dizon emphasized that the high year-end water elevation at Angat Dam, the capital’s primary water source, ensures sufficient supply throughout the dry season.

“For this year, we projected that there will be no water shortage since the year-end water elevation was high,” Dizon said during a Zoom interview.

He added that Angat Dam’s water level is not expected to reach the critical level of 180 meters during summer.

Water interruptions, if any, will be limited to regular maintenance, valve operations, and leak repairs, not due to insufficient supply. As of now, Angat Dam’s water level stands at 213.26 meters, well above the normal summer range of 190 to 200 meters.

Dizon credited proper planning and additional water sources, such as Laguna Lake’s treatment plants and modular treatment facilities in Cavite and Marikina, for the improved water supply.

While supply remains stable, he urged the public to conserve water as part of climate change mitigation efforts.
