CIVIL Service Commission (CSC) Commissioner Aileen Lizada has raised concerns over the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)’s acceptance of a donation from former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson.
Lizada asserted that this action could have been a violation of the law.
In the “Bagong Pilipinas” public briefing, Lizada cited Section 7 of Republic Act (RA) No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees), which outlines prohibited acts and transactions. This section explicitly prohibits the solicitation or acceptance, directly or indirectly, of any gift, or tip as gratitude, favor, or monetary value from an individual.
Lizada said there was no need to reciprocate with a “donation” to the work of the MMDA enforcers since they were just fulfilling their jobs.
It has been reported that the MMDA accepted a sum of P200,000 from Singson. This was purportedly in appreciation for apprehending his vehicle that had traversed the EDSA busway.
