MMDA to enforce odd/even scheme on Edsa as rehab begins June 16

TO ease traffic congestion during the multi-year EDSA rebuild, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will implement an odd/even traffic scheme beginning June 16, 2025.

MMDA Chair Romando Artes announced Monday that vehicles with license plates ending in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) will be barred from EDSA on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while those with even-numbered plates (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) will be restricted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The scheme will run 24 hours a day, excluding Sundays, though limited hours may be considered.

To help redirect traffic, a portion of Skyway Stage 3 running parallel to EDSA will be toll-free during the rebuild.

Meanwhile, all provincial buses, trucks, and large vehicles will be banned from EDSA except between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Daily clearing operations will begin on Mabuhay Lanes to ensure alternative routes remain passable. The MMDA is also looking to reintroduce an exclusive motorcycle lane and restrict motorcycles from using overpasses and underpasses.

Traffic rules will be enforced via the no-contact apprehension policy (NCAP), with a one-week dry run ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Fines will not be collected during this trial period.
