MMDA extends Edsa odd-even scheme dry-run for 1 month starting June 16

Edsa

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that the dry-run of the odd-even traffic scheme along EDSA will be extended for one month starting June 16.

Initially planned for just a week, the extension aims to serve as a public information campaign to help motorists adjust before actual penalties are imposed.

During the dry-run period, no fines will be issued. Instead, violators will receive warnings and notices, the MMDA said.

Certain vehicles are exempted from the scheme, including electric and hybrid vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, emergency vehicles, public utility vehicles (PUVs) like buses, jeepneys, taxis, and TNVS units, as well as official government vehicles used for essential services.

Vehicles crossing EDSA via intersections are also exempt.

The odd-even scheme is designed to ease traffic congestion during the EDSA rehabilitation project, which begins on June 13 and is expected to last until 2027. Under the scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in odd digits (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) are banned on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while even-digit plates (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) are restricted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. No restrictions apply on Sundays.

DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said 100 more buses will be added to the EDSA Busway, and improvements will be made to MRT-3 operations to support commuters.
