A minor vehicular incident occurred Friday night at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 arrival area, involving a Toyota Hi-Ace Super Grandia that hit a curb between Bays 13 and 14, the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. (NNIC) confirmed.
According to initial reports, the driver was attempting to avoid another vehicle while maneuvering, leading to the impact.
No injuries or property damage were reported.
Airport police and security personnel responded immediately. After a quick on-site assessment, the van was safely removed and brought to the Airport Police Division (APD) for routine documentation.
NNIC clarified that the section where the incident occurred does not have bollards, as Bays 13 and 14 are not considered high-traffic zones and are not assessed to pose immediate safety or security concerns. The bollards currently in place across NAIA terminals were installed in 2019, prior to NNIC taking over operations in September 2024.
Following the incident, NNIC said the area has been included in a comprehensive audit of bollard placements across all NAIA terminals. The audit has been completed, and the company is now working on improvements to ensure bollards are properly installed, reinforced, and expanded into key areas as needed.
The initiative comes in the wake of a separate incident at Terminal 1 last month, where two people were killed after being struck by a speeding vehicle.
NNIC stated that it is coordinating closely with airport authorities to enhance safety measures across all terminals.
