A group of lawyers from Mindanao has asked the Supreme Court (SC) to stop the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, arguing that the process is legally flawed.
The group filed Tuesday a petition for certiorari and prohibition, asking the high court to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) and the nullification of the impeachment complaint.
Among those who signed the petition are lawyers Israelito Torreon, Martin Delgra, James Reserva, and Hillary Olga.
Torreon is also the legal counsel of detained senatorial candidate and controversial religious leader Apollo Quiboloy, who is facing trafficking and sexual abuse cases.
The group said the group was “procedurally defective, constitutionally infirm, and jurisdictionally void.”
