METRO Manila saw a 19.61 percent drop in crimes in January 2025, according to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) acting chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin.
The NCRPO recorded 451 crimes against persons and property, 110 fewer than the same period last year. Aberin credited the decrease to aggressive police operations, particularly against illegal drugs, loose firearms, illegal gambling, and wanted persons.
Among the focus crimes, rape cases saw the biggest decline at 46.49 percent, followed by physical injuries (37.14 percent), homicide (28.57 percent), murder (17.65 percent), and theft (23.05 percent).
Meanwhile, Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III reported the arrest of 1,177 wanted persons and suspects in January. Authorities also seized 139 firearms, six explosives, and over 1,300 rounds of ammunition, preventing these from being used in crimes, especially with the upcoming elections.
The NCRPO oversees the Manila, Quezon City, Northern, Southern and Eastern Police Districts.
