PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will meet with the “golden boy” Carlos Yulo and other Filipino Olympians in Malacanang on Aug. 13.
“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will proudly receive Carlos Yulo, the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist, alongside other outstanding Filipino Olympians at Malacañan Palace on Tuesday, August 13, 2024,” the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page.
Yulo and the Philippine delegation are expected to arrive at Villamor Airbase in Pasay City in the afternoon of Aug. 13, the PCO said.
The PCO said the athletes would be welcomed by their families at the airport and would then proceed to the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City where government officials would wait for them.
After the welcome ceremony, they will be accorded a heroes’ parade until Malacañan Palace.
“Upon their arrival at the Palace, the Olympians will be welcomed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos and the First Family,” the PCO said.
“A special program will follow, where the President will personally honor the athletes and present them with well-deserved incentives, recognizing their extraordinary contributions to Philippine sports and their stellar performance during the 2024 Paris Olympics,” it added.
Yulo bagged two Olympic gold medals in the men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise and vault events.
Boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, meanwhile, snatched Olympic bronze medals.
As of posting time, female golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardine and female weightlifter Vanessa Arno will still vie for medals. (PNA)
