PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday paid tribute to Filipino teachers, calling them the nation’s “heroes” for their tireless dedication to shaping minds, molding values, and inspiring generations of learners.
Speaking before tens of thousands of educators at the National Teachers’ Day Culminating Program held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Marcos underscored that teachers contribute far beyond academics.
“Teachers impart far more than just knowledge. You shape lives. You mold values. And in return, you learn patience, courage, and hope from the very children that you guide,” he said, emphasizing the shared journey between teachers and students in building the nation’s future.
The President recognized the extraordinary service of teachers such as Marivic Villacampa of Cavite, who continues to teach despite battling cancer, and Mary Jane Riodica of Laguna, who uplifts communities through livelihood and skills training.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support educators through programs like the tax-free teaching allowance under the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act, fairer teaching loads, and reduced paperwork. Marcos announced a P1,000 World Teachers’ Day incentive for all teachers and highlighted the reallocation of over P26 billion from flood control projects to the education sector—funds that will improve classrooms, nutrition programs, teacher pay, and school technology.
“Today is your day, to all our teachers—but the future you are creating is a gift you give to us all,” the President said.
