PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday expressed deep concern over the health of Pope Francis who is in critical condition as he battles a serious illness.
Marcos joined the global community in praying for the pope’s strength and recovery.
“It is saddening to hear about the serious illness of Pope Francis. In these moments, we stand united with the world in prayer for his strength and healing,” he said in a statement.
The President also offered words of encouragement for the 88-year-old pontiff.
“May the Lord continue to guide and strengthen him so he can fulfill his mission of faith and love for humanity,” he added.
The pope was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 14 after experiencing breathing difficulties.
Initially treated for bronchitis, he was later diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs.
According to the latest medical update, his blood values are improving due to transfusions, but early signs of mild kidney failure have been detected, though currently under control.
“Pope Francis is alert and continues to receive oxygen therapy. His blood values are improving, thanks to transfusions. There is an initial slight renal insufficiency,” the Vatican News reported.
