Marcos, Duterte call for unity on Nazareno feast

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte joined the nation on Friday, January 9, in commemorating the Feast of the Black Nazarene, issuing separate messages centered on unity and faith.

In his statement, Marcos urged Filipinos to allow their devotion to guide the way they think, act, and help one another.

He expressed hope that the annual celebration would strengthen the nation’s shared commitment to carry one another’s burdens, promote fairness in opportunities, and keep hope alive in building a more humane and upright “Bagong Pilipinas.”

Duterte, for her part, said devotion to the Black Nazarene reminds Filipinos of Jesus Christ’s boundless love, sacrifice, and humility.

She added that the image of the Nazarene should continue to inspire the faithful to live out love and trust in God’s plan.
