Manila gov’t provides food, cash aid to fire victims

THE city government of Manila has provided cash and financial assistance to families that were affected by recent fire incidents in the city.

Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo led the distribution of assistance to fire victims in San Andres in the city’s 5th district on Wednesday, with each family receiving PHP10,000 cash aid.

In a statement, Lacuna said this small amount is their way of making the affected residents know that the city government is there to help them start anew.

The two officials would also lead the distribution of cash assistance to fire victims from Sta. Ana in the city’s 6th district on Thursday.

Manila Social Welfare Department chief Re Fugoso said the preparation for the Sta. Ana fire victims’ cash assistance took more time because it involved a huge number of families, numbering to about 300.

On Tuesday, a fire razed a residential area in Barangay 775 in Sta. Ana past 6 a.m., injuring two firefighters and a resident.

Later in the day, another fire gutted F. Muñoz St. in Barangay 740 in San Andres. (PNA)
