Manila collects 383 metric tons of trash after Traslacion

THE city government of Manila collected 382 metric tons (MT) of garbage following the activities related to the Feast of the Black Nazarene, Mayor Honey Lacuna said on Friday.

“The amount of garbage collected during the Traslacion on Jan. 8-10 was 1,138 cubic meters in volume or 382 metric tons,” Lacuna stated.

She commended the cleanup effort, noting it was faster this year, with most trash cleared before sunrise.

The cleanup involved MetroWaste, PhilEco, and the Department of Public Services.

Lacuna clarified that the total also included backlogs from the New Year celebrations.

Lacuna also reported a safe Traslacion, with no fatalities recorded during the 20-hour procession from the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta to the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno along Quezon Boulevard.
