LTO summons owners, drivers of sports cars in viral Tagaytay street race

THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the registered owners and drivers of six sports cars involved in an alleged street race in Tagaytay that was caught on video and widely shared on social media.

LTO Executive Director, lawyer Greg Pua, on Wednesday condemned the incident, describing it as a clear threat to public safety.

“These roads were built to provide safe mobility, not for reckless behavior. There are proper venues for such activities,” he said in a statement.

The agency has issued Show Cause Orders (SCOs) to the registered owners of the six vehicles—two Mazda MX-5s, a Ford Mustang, a Nissan Z, a Chevrolet Camaro, and a BMW M4. They are required to appear before the LTO and bring the actual drivers involved in the incident.

“It doesn’t matter if it was the owners or other individuals driving—there’s video evidence. They can’t escape accountability,” Pua emphasized.

The SCOs demand that the vehicle owners explain why they should not be held liable for reckless driving and deemed unfit to operate a motor vehicle.

All six cars have been placed under alarm, and the licenses of the drivers—once identified—will be suspended for 90 days pending investigation results.

“This is a warning: no one is above the law, whether you’re driving a luxury car or a tricycle,” Pua added.
