THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is evaluating a request from major transport groups for a provisional fare increase in public utility jeepneys (PUJs).
LTFRB chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said on Tuesday that Pasang Masada, ALTODAP, and ACTO filed the petition on Monday, seeking a P1 provisional fare hike and other adjustments for both traditional and modern PUJs.
The groups want the P1 provisional increase granted in October 2023 to be made permanent and are asking for an additional P2 hike, raising the minimum fare for traditional PUJs from P13 to P15. For modern PUJs, they propose raising the minimum fare from P14 to P19.
The petition consolidates multiple filings from August 2023 to March 2025, covering base fare increases and adjustments per succeeding kilometer.
“We are studying the petition in detail to ensure that any fare adjustment is fair, reasonable, and based on solid justification,” Guadiz said, noting that both commuters’ welfare and operators’ sustainability will be considered.
He added that the board will conduct public consultations and hearings to ensure transparent and participatory fare-setting.
“We will listen to all sides before making a decision,” Guadiz said.
