COMMUTERS can ride for free on Metro Manila’s major rail lines — MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 — from April 30 to May 3 as part of the government’s Labor Day tribute to Filipino workers.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced the initiative through a video message shared on social media, saying the free rides are a gesture of gratitude for the sacrifices and vital contributions of the country’s labor force.
“This is a simple recognition of the sacrifice and contribution of our workers, not only to our economy but also to our society,” the President said in Filipino.
Labor Day, observed every May 1, is a regular holiday in the Philippines to honor workers and their role in nation-building.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the rail line operators are coordinating the implementation of the free ride program to ensure smooth operations during the period.
