La Mesa Da nears spilling level amid continued rains

THE La Mesa Dam in Quezon City is approaching its spilling level as rains from the southwest monsoon (habagat) persist on Monday, July 21, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.

In its 10 a.m. advisory, Pagasa said the dam’s water level reached 76.6 meters as of 8 a.m., with Metro Manila expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters.

Pagasa noted that La Mesa Dam will overflow if the water level hits 80.1 meters, and warned that low-lying communities downstream could be affected by rising waters.
