BROADCAST journalist Korina Sanchez drew online attention after appearing surprised on-air that Sen. Lito Lapid had won a Senate seat in the last national elections.
During the December 4 finale of TV5’s Agenda, Sanchez and co-anchors Pinky Webb and Williard Cheng were discussing possible arrests related to the ongoing Independent Commission for Infrastructures probe into alleged flood control anomalies.
The anchors also mentioned Lapid’s comments expressing sadness over the involvement of former and current officials in the controversy.
Webb noted that Lapid’s remarks were “kagulat-gulat,” prompting Sanchez to react: “Nanalo pala siya?… Congrats, Sen. Lito. Hindi ko napapansin, sa totoo lang,” she said.
Cheng added, “Sa sobrang bihira niya magsalita, kaya pag nagsalita siya, balita talaga.”
Webb later explained Lapid’s earlier statement urging the ICI to invite him for questioning. “Tawagin n’yo po, tapos huwag kayong pumayag sa executive session,” she said.
The anchors ended the segment by greeting the senator, with Sanchez joking, “Ngayon alam ko na.”
Lapid placed 11th in the senatorial race. He has not issued a reaction to the exchange.
