MANILA City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso on Monday announced measures to ensure safety, order, and solemnity during the Feast of Jesus Nazareno on January 9.
Under Executive Order No. 2, Series of 2026, a liquor ban will be enforced on Jan. 9 within a 500-meter radius of Quiapo Church and along the Traslacion route. The sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in these areas are strictly prohibited to maintain peace and respect the solemnity of the event. The Manila Police District (MPD) and other law enforcement agencies will strictly enforce the ban throughout the celebration.
In addition, Executive Order No. 3, Series of 2026, imposes a total ban on firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices from January 8 to 9 within the city. The ban aims to prevent injuries, fires, and other hazards amid massive crowds during the Traslacion procession. Domagoso cited national laws and a 2023 Department of the Interior and Local Government memorandum encouraging local governments to limit firecracker use to authorized community displays.
Both executive orders take effect immediately and copies will be furnished to Malacañang in accordance with the Local Government Code of 1991.
