Increased patrols ordered along Marilaque highway after fatal motorcycle crash

THE Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP- HPG) is ramping up patrols along the Marikina-Rizal-Laguna-Quezon (Marilaque) Highway after a tragic motorcycle crash, captured in a viral video, claimed the life of a vlogger and injured four bystanders.

The incident, which occurred in a popular section of the highway, has prompted HPG Director Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta to deploy an additional 10-15 officers from nearby patrol teams in Laguna, Cavite, and Quezon to bolster the Rizal Highway Patrol Team, which currently has 17 members.

“We are committed to ensuring safety on Marilaque Highway, especially in areas with heavy traffic like Palo-Alto and Devil’s Curve,” HPG Spokesperson Lt. Dhame Malang said on Tuesday.

He assured the public of a continuous HPG presence, particularly on weekends.

The crash was the 13th incident along the highway this year.

Last year, 158 incidents were reported, with over 100 occurring in high-risk areas such as Palo-Alto and Mount Masungi.

Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Vigor Mendoza II has also ordered stricter enforcement in the area, vowing to curb dangerous motorcycle stunts that endanger road users.
