SENATOR Senator Grace Poe on Saturday expressed support for Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon’s decision to suspend the implementation of the full cashless payment system on expressways, stressing the need to resolve system defects first.
“The no-cash scheme is a good idea, but it should not be enforced until all issues—such as malfunctioning barriers, unreadable stickers, and faulty RFID devices—are fixed,” Poe said in a statement.
She also emphasized that motorists should have the option to pay in cash for unforeseen situations.
Poe, former chair of the Senate committee on public services, commended Dizon’s move, noting that an unreliable cashless system would only add to the burden of motorists.
“The new DOTr secretary is on the right track by suspending the rollout of full cashless payments on expressways,” she said.
