THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) have assured that the Philippine government is prepared to assist overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel.
Assistance includes voluntary repatriation, financial aid, and reintegration support.
OWWA Administrator Patricia Caunan said the government is ready under Alert Level 3, with resources and systems in place for OFWs choosing to return.
On Tuesday, 31 OFWs were expected to arrive in Manila, accompanied by DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi, who flew to assess the situation.
Of the arrivals, 26 came from Israel, three from Amman, Jordan, and one from the West Bank. The repatriation was delayed by temporary airspace closures following missile attacks.
So far, 311 OFWs have requested repatriation; 96 have confirmed, with another 50 set to arrive by June 26 or 27.
Returning OFWs will receive P150,000 in aid, temporary shelter, and other support.
DMW is coordinating with DOLE, TESDA, DTI, and DA to provide jobs, skills training, and livelihood programs.
Caunan emphasized that all OFWs—documented or not—are entitled to help, urging them to reach out via hotline 1348 and official channels.
