Ex-Speaker Romualdez welcomes ICI invitation, vows full cooperation

FORMER Speaker and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez on Wednesday confirmed that his office has received an invitation from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) and expressed his readiness to fully cooperate with the body’s ongoing investigation.

“The former House speaker welcomes the opportunity to cooperate with the Commission and fully supports its objective of promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance,” his office said in a statement.

Romualdez, who previously served as Speaker of the 19th and 20th Congress, said he is prepared to appear before the ICI to clarify any matters that may require his participation.

“In this regard, Rep. Romualdez is prepared to appear before the Commission,” his office added.

The ICI was recently formed to investigate alleged irregularities in government infrastructure projects, including reports of questionable budget insertions that may have led to ghost or substandard projects.

Romualdez is among several current and former lawmakers invited by the ICI as part of its ongoing probe.
