FORMER Negros Oriental Governor Pryde Henry Teves was arrested on Thursday in Dumaguete City over terrorism financing charges.
Members of the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested Teves, brother of suspended Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves, the alleged mastermind in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo in March 2023, at 8:15 a.m. in Barangay Taclobo.
“The accused was informed of the offense committed, and his constitutional rights in the dialect known and understood by him, as provided for under the law,” the PNP-CIDG said in a statement.
He was arrested based on an arrest warrant issued by the Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 74 over charges of alleged violation of The Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012.
A P200,000 bail was set for his temporary liberty.
The Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC) designated the former governor, his brother and 11 others as terrorists in August 2023.
The ATC said their violations include committing terrorism; planning, training, preparing and facilitating the commission of terrorism; recruitment to and membership in a terrorist organization; and providing material support to terrorists.
