SENATE President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Wednesday said Senator Erwin Tulfo is among those being considered to head the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee following the resignation of Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.
According to a report by Super Radyo dzBB, Sotto said Tulfo may assume the post if the five senators initially shortlisted for the chairmanship decline the position.
As vice chairperson of the panel, Tulfo would automatically succeed Lacson if no other senator accepts the role.
Sotto described Tulfo as a “good choice” to lead the powerful committee, which handles investigations into alleged government irregularities.
Earlier, Sotto named Senators Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, Raffy Tulfo, Pia Cayetano, Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and Risa Hontiveros as potential candidates for the post.
However, Raffy Tulfo and Pangilinan both declined, citing their commitments as chairs of major Senate committees aligned with their advocacies.
Ejercito said he is still considering the offer but believes there may be “more qualified” senators to lead the Blue Ribbon Committee, while Cayetano and Hontiveros have yet to issue their statements.
The majority bloc is expected to finalize the committee’s new chairmanship during its caucus on Wednesday.
