PORMAL nang nagpalabas ang Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) ng El Niño alert sa harap naman ng inaasahang tagtuyot sa bansa.
Sinabi ni PAGASA Administrator Vicente Malano na sinisimulan ang El Niño alert kapag umabot na sa mahigit 70 porsiyento ang posibilidad na ito’y nararanasan sa bansa.
“El Niño increases the likelihood of below-normal rainfall conditions, which could have negative impacts (such as dry spells and droughts) in some areas of the country. However, over the western part of the country, above-normal rainfall conditions during the Southwest Monsoon season (Habagat) may also be expected,” sabi ni Malano.
Hinikayat din ni Malano ang publiko at kaukulang mga ahensiya ng pamahalaan na ugaliing magmonitor at gumawa ng hakbang para mabawasan ang mga epekto ng El Niño.
