DOJ to issue subpoena vs Jinggoy, Revilla over plunder raps

THE Department of Justice (DOJ) is set to issue subpoenas next week against Senator Jinggoy Estrada and former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla in connection with separate plunder complaints linked to the alleged flood control corruption scandal.

At the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City, DOJ Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon said the issuance of subpoenas will mark the start of the preliminary investigation into the complaints.

He earlier confirmed that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), in coordination with DOJ prosecutors, conducted fact-finding and subsequently referred the cases to the Office of the Ombudsman, which returned the records to the DOJ for further action.

DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said the plunder allegations are not limited to projects in Bulacan but involve flood control projects nationwide. Revilla and Estrada have both denied the accusations against them.

Meanwhile, former Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co is facing a separate plunder complaint, while the Ombudsman has filed graft and malversation charges against Revilla and several others over an alleged ghost flood control project in Bulacan.
