DMW assures support for family of OFW killed in Iran missile strike in Israel

THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has assured full government assistance to the family of Leah Mosquera, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who died from critical injuries after an Iranian missile struck a residential area in Rehovot, Israel, on June 15.

In a statement released Sunday night, the DMW extended its deepest condolences to the family of Mosquera, who worked as a caregiver. She sustained serious injuries to her heart and lungs and remained in critical condition at Shamir Medical Center’s intensive care unit before passing away on Sunday.

“In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), in coordination with the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), will cover all costs related to OFW Leah’s repatriation and burial,” the DMW said.

The department will also provide financial support to her family and shoulder the travel expenses of Mosquera’s sister, Mae Joy — also a caregiver in Israel — who will accompany her remains back to the Philippines.

Mosquera was one of three OFWs caught in the April 15 missile attacks launched by Iran in retaliation for a prior Israeli airstrike. The two other Filipinos were injured but later discharged after treatment.

The DMW paid tribute to Mosquera, highlighting her contributions and resilience.

“OFW Leah’s dedication and quiet heroism embody the strength and sacrifices of our overseas Filipino workers who carry the hopes and dreams of their families, their communities, and our nation,” the agency said.
