THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered all barangays to deploy watchmen to public schools following the shooting incident in Nueva Ecija.
In Memorandum Circular 2025-072 issued on Tuesday, August 12, the DILG directed barangay officials to coordinate with the Department of Education (DepEd) in assigning barangay tanod to campuses.
The watchmen are expected to patrol school premises, manage traffic in surrounding areas, and report any security threats.
The agency said the measure aims to strengthen safety in school zones nationwide.
The order came after the August 7 shooting at Sta. Rosa Integrated School in Nueva Ecija, where an 18-year-old suspect shot his 15-year-old former girlfriend.
