NILINAW ni Senate President Chiz Escudero na malabong matuloy ang impeachment trial kay Vice President Sara Duterte dahil naka-break ang Kongreso.
Sa Kapihan sa Senado forum, ipinaliwanag ni Escudero na hindi maaaring magkaroon ng trial sa Senado dahil unang-una, ay hindi naman na-convene ang impeachment court.
Hindi anya nai-refer kaagad sa plenaryo ang Articles of Impeachment na nagmula sa Kamara.
“Legally, it cannot be done. The impeachment court has not been formed because the complaint was not referred to the plenary,” ani Escudero.
“Without that step, the Senate, as a legislative body, cannot yet act as an impeachment court.”
Miyerkules ng gabi nang mag-adjourn ang Senado nang hindi tinalakay ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay Duterte na isinumite ng Kamara.
Tinanggap ni Senate Secretary Renato Bantug ang dokumento alas 5:49 ng hapon ngunit hindi naireport sa plenaryo bago pa mag-adjourn ng alas-7 ng gabi.
May 215 kongresista ang pumirma sa Articles of Impeachment laban sa bise presidente.
