THE Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) clarified that it is not calling for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to resign, amid political tensions and controversies over flood control projects.
In an interview, Father Jerome Secillano of the CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on Public Affairs said the Church’s position remains anchored on the rule of law and accountability, not on political pressure.
“There is no stance from the Church asking the President to step down,” Secillano said. “What we insist on is the legal process: those involved should be investigated and charged so accountability can take place.”
He stressed that the Church’s call has always been for due process, not resignation.
“To repeat, there is no call for anyone to resign. What matters is that cases are filed and the process moves forward,” Secillano said.
