SEVERAL Catholic schools have announced the suspension of classes on February 25, 2025 to commemorate the 39th anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution, despite its exclusion from the official list of holidays.
The EDSOR Consortium of Schools—comprising Immaculate Conception Academy, La Salle Green Hills, Saint Pedro Poveda College, and Xavier School—declared that they will observe the date as a special non-working holiday to honor the historic event.
“Recognizing our responsibility as educational institutions, we remain committed to preserving the relevance of the EDSA People Power Revolution, particularly for our current and future generations of students,” the consortium said.
“We will continue to keep the spirit of EDSA alive despite active efforts to undermine it,” it added.
They also urged the public to take part in the commemoration.
The government has declared Feb. 25 a special working holiday, where employees are expected to work as usual and receive their regular pay although the day is declared a day of observance.
In a separate statement, De La Salle Philippines (DLSP) announced that all of its schools will suspend both classes and work on February 25 to mark the occasion.
Aside from DLSU, here are the other schools that suspended classes on Feb. 25
General de Jesus College
Immaculate Conception Academy
Saint Pedro Poveda College
Xavier School
University of Sto. Tomas
The sectoral regents of the University of the Philippines, on the other hand, have already urged UP president Angelo Jimenez to declare Feb. 25 as a non-working holiday and alternative learning day.
