PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has accepted the resignations of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, who stepped down out of “delicadeza” following allegations linking their agencies to irregular flood-control projects, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced Monday.
Castro said both officials voluntarily resigned to allow the administration to address the controversy without distraction and thanked them for their service.
She highlighted Bersamin’s legal expertise and leadership, and Pangandaman’s role in strengthening fiscal management and ensuring the timely passage of national budgets.
Marcos has appointed Finance Secretary Ralph Recto as the new executive secretary, citing his extensive background in economic policy and national planning.
Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Frederick Go was designated as the next Finance Secretary, recognized for his work in boosting investments and investor confidence. The Palace has yet to announce a replacement for Go’s vacated post.
At the Department of Budget and Management, Undersecretary Rolando Toledo was named officer in charge to ensure continuity in budget preparation and ongoing recovery efforts.
Castro acknowledged that allegations raised by former Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co may have contributed to the resignations.
She also confirmed that Presidential Legislative Liaison Office Undersecretary Adrian Bersamin resigned for the same reason.
