PALACE Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday, January 13, after receiving what she described as “grave threats” from Facebook pages.
Castro said she decided to formally report the matter out of concern for her safety and to ensure that the threats were properly documented.
“I really have to report this matter because if something happens to me, at least naka-report po ‘yung mga taong nagpapalutang ng ganitong klaseng grave threats,” Castro said.
She admitted that the threats frightened her and said she is still considering whether to file formal charges against those behind the online posts.
Castro also said she hopes the NBI can help identify the individuals operating the Facebook page responsible for the alleged threats.
As Palace press officer, Castro regularly addresses sensitive political issues and controversial topics, which she said has made her a frequent target of online attacks and criticism.
