SENATE President Vicente Sotto III on Sunday assured the public that all Senate records — particularly those belonging to the Blue Ribbon Committee — remain secure, intact, and completely unaffected by the early morning fire that hit a section of the Senate building in Pasay City.
Sotto said the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) received a report at around 6:30 a.m. about a blaze at the office of the Legislative Technical Affairs Bureau on the building’s third floor.
Firefighters quickly responded and declared the fire under control by 7:43 a.m.
“Rest assured that all pertinent Senate documents, especially those of the Blue Ribbon Committee, are safe. None of them were damaged or compromised,” Sotto emphasized.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and evaluating the impact on the affected office. Sotto noted that water used in extinguishing the flames seeped down to the Session Hall, prompting immediate cleanup operations.
The Senate is now coordinating with the BFP and internal security teams to fortify safety protocols and prevent similar incidents. Maintenance personnel have also been deployed round-the-clock to restore the Session Hall ahead of Monday’s session.
