Barbers defends probe as vloggers file libel charges over alleged drugs, POGO links

Vloggers have filed libel charges against Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers after he requested the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe their alleged ties to illegal drugs and Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs).

Trixie Cruz-Angeles, one of the complainants, expressed distress over Barbers’ accusations, saying they caused “sleepless nights and fear among family members.”

She also raised concerns about potential demonetization of their social media platforms due to the allegations.

Barbers, who chairs the House committee on dangerous drugs, stood firm on his stance.

He reiterated his call for the NBI to investigate so-called “narco vloggers” and determine whether they have links to illicit activities.

“The public deserves to know the truth,” Barbers stated.

“If these individuals are innocent, then they have nothing to fear.”

Other complainants include Lorraine Badoy, Krizette Chu, Cathy Binag, Joie De Vivre, MJ Quiambao Reyes, and Mark Anthony Lopez.

Barbers maintained that his call for an investigation was not meant to silence anyone but to ensure that social media platforms are not being used to promote or protect illegal activities.
