NAGBABALA sa publiko ang environmental health group na EcoWaste Coalition hinggil sa 27 skin whitening products na umano’y kontaminado ng mercury.
Ayon kay EcoWaste Coalition National Coordinator Aileen Lucero na patuloy na nabibili ang mga cosmetics na may mataas na level ng mercury sa kabila ng ipinatutupad na global ban.
Kasabay nito, ginunita rin ng coalition ang ikalimang anibersaryo ng Minamata Convention na nagmamandato ng phase-out ng mga mercury-added products (MAPs).
“Our most recent investigation shows that the manufacture, import and export of mercury-added skincare cosmetics have not stopped despite the 2020 phase-out deadline. We are deeply concerned for the health of consumers, who are mostly women, and their households as many of these products are contaminated with extremely high levels of mercury that will classify them as hazardous waste,” dagdag ni Lucero.
