Army colonel relieved after allegedly withdrawing support for PBBM

THE Philippine Army (PA) on Friday relieved a senior officer from his post following a social media post in which he withdrew his “personal support” for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said the relief of Col. Audie Mongao was ordered by PA Commanding General Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete to allow a thorough investigation by the Army’s Training Command.

Mongao was placed under attached/unassigned status effective immediately.

Mongao earlier posted on social media that he was withdrawing his personal support for President Marcos effective January 9, without citing a specific reason, but said the “Filipino people is worth fighting for.”

Training Command chief Maj. Gen. Michael Logico confirmed that Mongao is assigned to his unit and is currently on New Year’s break. He said Mongao was relieved from his position as commander of the Training Support Group after efforts to reach him were unsuccessful.

Logico said an investigation is underway to determine possible administrative and legal charges related to Mongao’s online statement. He added that the Army continues to try to contact Mongao to offer support.

The Philippine Army reiterated that it remains professional and loyal to the Constitution and the chain of command.
