7 taxi drivers apprehended for violations in ongoing crackdown at NAIA

AT least seven taxi drivers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were apprehended on Wednesday for various violations, according to Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eric Ines.

This follows intensified efforts to address issues involving erring taxi drivers.

A 24/7 composite team, formed on Sunday, includes personnel from the MIAA, Airport Police Department (APD), Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group.

Ines emphasized that inspections are done unannounced.

“Maybe they thought we weren’t serious, but we mean business,” he said in a radio interview.

Offenses included driving without a valid license, expired franchises, tampered meters, and illegal passenger solicitation.

Ines noted some drivers solicit passengers near Terminal 3, outside the official pickup area.

The MIAA plans to increase APD personnel in the area, with final deputization arrangements currently underway.
