NAKAUMANG na ang imbestigasyon ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) laban sa pitong pulis sa Navotas matapos ang pagpatay sa 17-anyos na lalaki na pinaghinalaang tumatakas na suspek.
“CHR is already conducting an independent motu proprio investigation into the incident. The investigation seeks to ensure accountability for the alleged arbitrary deprivation of life of a boy committed by State agents, particularly by six police officers of Navotas City police,” ayon sa kalatas ng CHR na nagpahayag din ng matinding pagkabahala sa insidente na nangyari noong Agosto 2.
Binaril at napatay ang 17-anyos na si Jerhode Jemboy Baltazar, matapos siyang tumalon sa ilog mula sa isang bangka nang sabihan siyang sumuko ng mga pulis.
“The boy received fatal shots, then the police later realized he was not the subject of their operation,” ayon sa CHR.
Ang mga pulis na sangkot sa insidente ay sinibak na sa kanilang pwesto habang nahaharap sa kasong administratibo at homicide.
“CHR hopes that the PNP will continue to live up to its motto ‘to serve and protect’ as a duty-bearer for the rights of the people, especially the weak, vulnerable, and marginalized members of the society,” dagdag pa ng CHR.
