2-star general faces rape, attempted rape complaints

A two-star general in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is facing serious complaints of rape and attempted rape after allegedly sexually assaulting two soldiers in his quarters following a drinking session.

In their affidavits, the complainants said the general invited them to sleep in his room, which they initially dismissed as a joke. The alleged assault followed.

The general, who has since been relieved of his post and placed under restrictive custody by the Philippine Air Force, denied the allegations.

In his counter-affidavit, he argued that the assault could not have happened, claiming the complainants—both trained and able-bodied soldiers—could have easily overpowered him or left the room.

“They are not under duress, nor did I use any weapon, force, threat, or intimidation,” the general stated.

Despite the denial, a preliminary investigation by the AFP’s Office of Ethical Standards and Public Accountability found prima facie evidence to proceed to a pre-trial investigation.

The AFP’s investigation remains ongoing.

The AFP assured the protection of the rights of two junior officers.

In a statement, the AFP said the complainants are safeguarded from intimidation or undue influence.

It emphasized that all misconduct cases are treated seriously.

The AFP did not disclose identities or complaint details for privacy.

It reaffirmed its commitment to due process, transparency, and accountability within the military justice system.
